YOU TOOK IT FOR GRANTED

Computer Assisted Language Learning, yes, that's what you took for granted. Every week, we come to class and watch our teachers lecture with the help of a projector, use slide shows and so on. Lets go back in time and find out when did this crazy machine was invented.

The first computer was invented around 1938, but it wasn't available for mass production because it barely fit into a room. But officially, the first computer which fits the meaning of the word was invented in 1943 and it was completed in 1946, yet, it was even bigger, it covered around 1,800 feet square(167.2255 square meters). Never mind that, it was first used in schools was 1963, and it was almost only used in universities which also helped to the development of the computers.
Then around 1950s, mass production of TVs shook the world. That was also used in schools but meh, couldn't catch up with the trend because projectors and mass produced computers were coming just a decade after. Around 60s, there was a rapid increase in computer usage all around the world. With the beginning of this period, it was time that we, language learners started to use the computer as a tool for ourselves. CALL programs were started to being written and they slowly but surely began to be integrated to the language learning courses.
Do we have to talk about now? It is almost unacceptable to deny that there isn't enough data for language learning online. With CALL, the Internet and the education system evolving along technology, we have great opportunities to learn a language from the Internet, the clouds, the programs, courses, websites, forums, videos, podcasts, writings, articles and in so many other ways you can and probably can't imagine.
